Janowen Hills Christmas Party 12 & 13/11/11

Post by krn »

Friday Night Attendees(in no particular order) were
-the esteemed President Greg and Renae
-Kim and Steve
-Jonathon and Vicky
-Ben,Hunter,Magnuss and Axel

Saturday Morning Attendees were
-Tim, Michelle and Anita
-Gary and Aiden
-Brian and Jan
-Mark and Ari
-Allan and yours truly
After meeting at Aratula Shell at 08:00hrs Saturday we were off at a leisurely pace, up the Great Divide and over at Cunninghams Gap.
The Friday nighters were out and about early and we made radio contact from the Goomburra turn off.
A quick camp set up,trip to the Office (and the usual Box disagreement over where to set up)and we were OFF.
The first water challenge had us all working as a smooth team as usual with all vehicles crossing successfuly .
Dave and Sam joined us for the day and some time was spent at a three ways play area- Dave ,Ben and Greg impressed us with their skill and daring.Allan tested his(new) Patrol with pleasing results and all drivers and passengers were happy.
After watching the retrieval of a Patrol resting on its side IN A HUGE HOLE we made our way over some easy, moderate and difficult tracks and eventually back to the campground.
Gregs parents Kerry and Cathy joined us and Jane also arrived
While the ladies and children paddlled and swam in the creek the keen 4x4s went out again to collect fire wood and I suspect try out some manouvers not recomended by myself.
Thanks to Kim for organizing THE BABY PHOTO COMPETITION which was won by Renae with 13/17(I think??).What a gorgeous lot of babies we were and what alot of discussion the photos generated-the ultrasound should not have been allowed!
Dinner was a great meal-thanks to Greg for organizing the event.
Secret Santa had some new rules this year with stealing of gifts actually being encouraged-thanks Ben it was fun.
Then it was back to the fire for some drinks, talk and entertainment by Jonathon-thank you and please do it again
What a great week-end- good food, beautiful weather, country surounds and some of the best people in the world!
Merry Christmas to all

Great trip report Karen!!

On the way to pay the Friday nighters go to the office too early. I suggested that we go for a little drive to the national park. Luckily enough the lookout road was open and we made it to Slyvesters Lookout (after a short walk). The climatic conditions there were interesting.

An artsy fartsy of us looking at the track and then Allan having a crack at it...

Just want to say a bit thank you to everybody for the great weekend. Also a special mention to Greg and Renae who stopped to give us a hand on Friday night when we overheated (turns out there is a leaking hose at the top of the thermostat housing that is the likely culprit) and also to Tim who gave me a fair bit of helpful advice throughout the weekend.

Great Photos Jonathan.

Like the one with your rear wheel in the air. You are still getting good flex at the front. We should have had a go at getting up that ditch. Would have been interesting as exen my rear wheel was off the ground there.

The front doesn't have a sway bar but the back does, apparently it makes quite a big difference if you detach it, would be interesting to see if that's accurate.

Certainly without lockers it would have been difficult going back up.
