Hi members,
At the last meeting (which was also our AGM), ideas for the 2015 Christmas party were being considered. While trying to avoid the very busy month of December, and since we are rapidly approaching November, it was decided that this year we will aim for a simple “Dinner and Champagne” event on Bribie Island on Sunday the 15th of November. Details are below.
The Plan : (just say that word quietly around Dave …. It’s a long sad story),
We meet at the Bribie Island BP Servo, and travel up the inland track to stop at the Fort day-use facility for lunch. There are trees/shade, some tables with benches available and toilets available. We can play in the sand with vehicles and/or adults & kids (e.g. a bit of beach cricket).
Around 2:30pm we travel north a little to have a look at the WWII forts, and then south along the beach to the “1st Lagoon”. Here the water temperature should be in the thirties by mid afternoon. It’s a shallow lagoon with a sandy bottom. A bit of ocean swimming is also possible since the waves are very gentle here.
Option 1:
Around 5:30pm we will aim to have dinner cooking, with the possibility of a glass of champagne (or just a beer or two), and watch the sun set behind us. Low tide is around 5:15pm, so we have plenty of time to exit via the beach. It’s only a 4 minute drive to exit the beach from the lagoon.
Option 2:
We leave around the lagoon around 5:30pm, hit the black top, and drive to some take-away shops or cafes on western side of the island close to the main bridge. We can have dinner in a park (BYO chairs recommended), and people can select their favourite foods from the shops/cafes.
Please post your preferred option on the forum asap. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or would like more details or information about the options.
Where: Bribie Island
Cost: Requires a beach permit. Log into http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.auto book your beach permit online. A weekly permit is available for $44.70, or a yearly permit for $139.60.
When: Sunday 15th Nov at 11:00am. We exit by 11:15am.
Meeting Place: Meet at the BP Servo (BP, Cnr Goodwin Dve & Hornsby Rd Hornsby Road, Bribie Island QLD 4507). This is the BP servo on Bribie Island about 500m past the bridge.
UHF: Channel 13
Trip Standard: Green
Trip Leader: Dave
What to bring : Something to wear in or near the water, something for lunch to eat at the day-use picnic area, and dinner/beer if option 1 is chosen.
Note : If you don’t want to take you vehicle on the sand or pay the vehicle access permit, you could park you vehicle at the BP, and then just car-pool with someone else. Please let me know if this is your preference, as I’ll match people to vacant seats on vehicles traveling on the sand.
Cheers
Dave.

I'd love to do both!!! But I'll go along with Ben - the beer idea does make it sound very appealing.

We will be there. If we are doing a barbecue at the lagoon, is it BYO or a club thing?

Hi all,
It looks like option 1 is the preferred option, i.e. cook up something on the beach as the sun sets .... while having a beer or two.
Just keep your fingers crossed that we have fine weather.

Hi Karen and Allan,
It's a very simple event this year. Basically, bring something light for lunch, and then something to cook for a dinner. I'm hoping we will have good weather at least in the afternoon, so we can sit on the beach as the sun sets and cook up something for dinner.
I believe some people will sizzle some sausages, and our family will need to make the mandatory salmon burgers for the kids.
I think people are also bringing some simple desert/sweets that could possibly be shared with others. Oh - and don't forget to bring something bubbly to drink.
Also just to confirm .... the event is on the Sunday, as several people were not available on the Saturday.
It will be great to catch up with you again.
Cheers
Dave.

Unfortunately I will be in Townsville for the weekend, but hoping the weather is kind to you all. Have a wonderful day. Cheers, Steve and Kim.
