Easter Trip - Clarence River

Post by Capella_Ben »

Hi Guys,

For those not going on the Simpson trip I was thinking of camping at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge.

There are a few sports to 4WD in the area, and I'd also like to take the kids for a walk up Bald Rock.

Anyone else interested?

I will see what our plans are.

But if the invite is open to us then we will try to make it along.

Unfortunately I'll miss that trip. Instead (if all goes to plan), I'll be leading almost a third of the club members into a desert. And we sort of have plans to come out the other side too. ;)

Hi Greg,

Not 100% sure we'll go yet. Just seeing if anyone else is interested.

A lot depends on the weather. It has not been our friend much lately!

Dave,

Good to hear you are actually planning on coming out the other end!

We are interested in going.

If all things work out Greg, it would be great to catch up with you on the track.

I was checking out the map and just realised that the Wilderness Lodge is not too far from where we were driving in January. Emu Creek is not far from there as well - only 23 km but apparently according to google maps it will take you 1 hr to get there.

I was thinking of just exploring the surrounding area for a day and walking up bald rock on another day. Apparently there is some sort of track along the Clarence river. Emu Creek could be fun too, I haven't been there before.

I checked out the booking for Clarence River Wilderness Lodge and shows that the campground is already booked out - only 12 sights.

I have been googling around the area and did find Girard State Forest - is a free camp ground their (dont know how busy it will be for easter) http://www.forestrycorporation.com.au/v ... sts/girard. Also some pictures i found from another clubs trip - https://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewpan ... 278713552/ and finally a description of a little touring trip out of Tenterfield heading in that general direction - https://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewpan ... 278713552/

That looks pretty interesting. About 3 hours away, but could definitely be worth it.

Can you check your third link, it is the same as the second one.

That flickr post is great, because if you go to the map view you can see where each photo was taken - we can find that great looking river crossing. :-)
