Hi Members,

For those lucky people coming to the Christmas Party, I have some details below.

Where: Sandy Creek Campin Ground http://www.sandycreekcampin.com.au/

How to get there : You can put in Sandy Creek Rd, Sandy Creek, Qld into the GPS. It’s actually called “Mary Smokes Rd” when you turn off the D’Aguilar Hwy. Continue along Sandy Creek Rd until the bitumen stops and the dirt road starts. Around 150m further, you’ll see the Cedarvale Rd turnoff on the left. Another 2km down the road, you will see the Sandy Creek Camping sign. There are also directions on the camp’s web site.
Note – there is no mobile reception in the area.

For people coming up Friday : Please check in at the office first, and then proceed to the camp ground*, and set up your tent or camper trailer.
For people coming up Saturday morning : Please meet at the BP Service Centre Morayfield by 8:40am, for a 9:00am sharp departure. Again, there is no need to check in with the office first.

* Where in the camp ground : We have the private camping area (fig tree site) booked. There is a T junction when entering the grounds. Turn left to go to the “Office”, and then proceed to the “Fig Tree” camp site. But please check in at the office first, as you need to fill in some forms. What to bring : 1) Meals for Friday and breakfast for Saturday (if arriving Friday), lunch for Saturday and Sunday. 2) Camera for the treasure hunt. 3) Camping chair for Thieving Secret Santa.

Agenda :
Friday – Some people arrive at different times. Please set up your tent, explore the area around Fig Tree camping area. Please stay keep away from the 4x4 tracks as I’ll be marking tracks, and setting up the treasure hunt. That way no one has an unfair advantage.
Saturday morning – For people who arrived Friday, there will be a morning trip to nearby Bellthorpe National park. Recommended departure is 8:00am, and return by 12:00pm.
For people coming Saturday, a 9:00am departure from BP will see a 10:00am arrival at the camp grounds. The aim is to set up tents, and if finished early explore the creeks /area, and continue talking to other members.
Saturday 12:00pm. The whole group joins up, we have lunch, and talk and talk, and then limit talking, and by 1:00pm we take a group photo.
Saturday 1:00pm. Dave gives safety and detailed instructions for the treasure hunt. The short version : We break up into teams of 3 vehicles. You will be given a map (I have now mapped the whole park with a GPS). On the map, you will have clues to find a number of items hidden throughout the park, as well as an activity or two. Under the items are “Letters” to make up a combination of words. Anyway, you’ll have a chance to explore most of the park to find the “treasure”. At least one experienced driver will be in each group, so the course can be completed by everyone.
Saturday 4:00pm. We meet back at the tent site and determine the winner of the treasure hunt, and air-up tires.
Saturday 5:00pm. We depart for the Kilcoy Exchange hotel at 13 William St, Kilcoy QLD 4515, which is around a 20 minute drive. We have dinner,
Saturday 7:00pm. We depart for the campgrounds and start the Thieving Secret Santa game. We must leave by 7:00pm otherwise the kids will get too tired to play the game. It is likely to be 9:00pm be we finish that game. Once all the kids are in bed, we can start on adult topics …. E.g. discussing live axle verses IFS. LOL.
Early Sunday morning Kids Freddo hunt. When Santa, and Easter Bunny and the local frogs get together. Kids can search for Freddos hidden near the camp site.
Sunday morning. Breakfast, and then two options. 1) Stay around the camp site, explore the creeks, swing under the fig tree, play with Remote Controlled Rock Crawlers, hit a ball or two, etc. Or 2) aim for a 8:30am departure to further explore the tracks in the tracks. There is also a black diamond track for people to explore who have vehicles with a lift, winch, etc.
Sunday midday : we pack up, say our good byes, and start to head home.

We will also squeeze in a Christmas tree decoration activity for the kids (many thanks Jane).

BTW – if you have an Firewood at home, would you be able to bring some along. No collection from the property is allowed.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks
Dave.
