The rainy day today was a good excuse to install the ERPS.

It took almost all day, but it worked first time.

Glad to hear it worked first time. Now you'll have to see that you don't get an error light after driving through some water. Some nice salty ocean water is the best to test this. Hahaha - Sorry.

After noticing a bit of play in the right rear, I have started to replace all of the wheel bearings. After spending a fortune on genuine bearing kits I began.

That last image shows the special service tool Craig and I made to be able to torque up the lock nut to the required amount.

Finally got the last set of wheel bearings done this morning. I'm pretty good at pressing in the new bearing races now. A bit of lunch and then off for a test drive.

The new custom badges I made are looking good. Temporarily put the draft versions on last night.

The special double sided tape for this arrived this afternoon. It wasn't supposed to turn up until next week; bonus!

CV replacement

So at Sundown I had a little mishap with my CV. At the time I thought I must have Broken it internally.

On Monday, I ordered some new CV's and flanges. These are the newer types with longer flanges. I got them all on Friday. That eBay seller won't get good feedback on their "express" postage.

When I started pulling it apart I found that the problem is really between the CV and the drive flange.

Have a look at this video.

Luckily I bought new flanges!

So I got the CV out and you can see that the splines are just a bit worn. ;)

Here you can see how much longer the new ones are.

I noticed that a fair bit of water has gotten in and ruined the outer wheel bearing. So I replaced the bearing and race. Doing the race, I found that the rear hub tool combined with my custom race pressing bit is the perfect combination. It is even easier than using a press. In the end we got the right hand side done.

I started the left hand side this morning, but found that the water ingress is much worse and the spindle is ruined.

So now I have to wait for more parts that won't arrive until next Friday. But I did take the opportunity to get a few more bits I needed, so I'll also replace the studs and cone washers, etc.

Oh well.

Well, doing this yourself will save a fair amount of money, and you'll know the job is getting done properly.

That's always the scary bit in taking things apart. You get to see how bad the joins, rust, bolts, etc really is.

I can't tell from the photos, but that electronic rust prevention system should have been turning the rust back to just plain metal, i.e. the rust should have been reasonably dark and not the orange/red of active rusting.
