Scenic Rim 9th Feb 2013

Post by Dave »

After a 9:00am exit from Beaudesert (and 1 vehicle from McDonalds Morayfield), we travelled to Scenic Rim 4x4 adventure park. The lucky people to join us were
  • Cuboid + 1
Dave + ..... hmmm zero today
    Dave (Puma)
    Capella_Ben + 4
    Ben Jancz + 1
    Louis + 2

Even with the odd shower or two on the way to the park, the park itself seemed reasonably dry.

Our first track quickly turned into a dead end, as the creek crossing was washed out.
Image

After taking some other tracks, we had a play in the 4x4 playground. Some tires got a little mud on the sides.
Image

Others times wheels were far from the ground.
Image

Unfortunately in this area a Nissan decided to have a "time-out", and after being towed to entry of the park, had a long (and probably expensive) tow back to Brisbane.
The rock sliders probaby saved the body panels, and hopefully damage to the drive shaft, etc. The wheel was actually being kept back by rubbing up on the rock sliders.
Image

When towing the Nissan up a sleep hill, and little more help was needed, and a comp vehicle kindly offered to lean a hand. You'll have to watch the video for closeup of the vehicles.
Image

We then continued around the park testing our vehicles on various tracks.
Image

A stop near a cottage at the back of the park revealed the most scenic view for any bathroom. Even the spiders liked the view. I don't know why no-one was keen to test the seat.
Image

The Fords were asked to test the "boss" track towards the end of the day, but the gully won out, and the vehicle needed a winch back out.
Image

At the end of the day, we had the opportunity to have close look at more competition vehicles, and even followed a few out to the main road.

And the video is finally finished. Gives a taste of our trip.

Cheers
Dave.

I have a bit of video to share.

We ended up having 2 winches, a snatch and a tow on the day. A lot of recoveries.

Looks like you guys had a great time, Perfect weather for it. Ben quick question on your camera what type is it and does it have a self leveling feature cause it shows the angles in the car which is great.

I have a GoPro Hero3. At the start of the video it was simply mounted to the bonnet. The self leveling effect is courtesy of YouTube anti-shake. It seems it fixed itself to the trees and not the bonnet as its reference point.

I have since upgraded Windows Live Movie Maker and now it has anti-shake as well as anti-wobble. All I need to do after that is get rid of the annoying noise in the audio track. But that's a job for another day...

I have the gopro H3 silver and use powerdirector 11 to edit, as you can see from my movie edit you can add photo's, music to the story line, which is also good to get the different angles of the same scene. If you want you can upload my link to show others of the day trip to the glasshouse, Better still i will put it in the youtube section

Dave got home around 5pm, towing was $5.50 a km, Waiting for the new rods from superior, looks like its pretty common with the factory ones, so a relatively good run out of them, and no other damage detected thanks to the rock sliders, the pressure is on to fix em as we are off to wave station this w/e. So could have been worst could of happened that w/e. You really can;t expect to 4wd without damage at some time but it would be nice with out it.

I took this screen grab from a movie we made before we thought Dave broke his car. This is just after the little mud hole we went through. Does the back tyre look right here? Maybe Dave broke his car earlier in the day somewhere and that gully finished him off.

We had a blast at Scenic rim 4x4 park.
Oh and we think the McDonalds burgers in beaudesert are crap. Morayfield Burgers on the other hand are delicious and well worth a "slight" detour.

For those that didnt think a Frontera would make it through, I refer you to the above video. Feel free to join in the clapping and cheering at the end.

To louisrankin. Your dad is a very wise man. I chose the Frontera. It was the most beautiful and the cheapest vehicle. And yes Ben (The Driver) and Freddie (the Frontera) performed quite well that day! P.S. And where is my icon "Worship Holden"?! :D
