Possible trip to Fraser

Post by cuboid »

Arie and I are considering doing a trip to Fraser for the October long weekend. We would look at taking Friday off work to give us a bit more time and value for money. Tides are looking good with low tides around mid day.

Just putting out a feeler to see if anyone else is interested in coming along.

That's school holidays then. Could be interested. Will worry about it when I get back from the Cape though.

Dave's got his Bribie Island trip later in the month if I remember correctly, so it will be a very beachy month.

Dave and family would be there too. The kids have only asked to go back 12,965 times ..... and that's in the last month.

I'd like to recommend/suggest Central Station camp ground for a place to stay. It's fenced, i.e. dingo proof. Best of all, when the tide comes up, there are hundreds of kms of inland tracks that take you to the fresh water lakes, rainforests, etc, etc.

And that leaves low tide to race (at the speed limit of course) up the beach to the other tourist attactions.

Just having a look at central station Dave, it has 44 camp sites and 16 Trailer sites, no fires allowed (http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/fraser ... mping_area).

Dundaburra and Waddy Point are two other fenced campsites further up the beach, and they do allow fires (dont i sound like a fire bug) but dont have access to the inland tracks. These 2 sites only have 5 and 3 trailer spots respectively.

Given it is school holiday time, we may need to book early to get the sites we want. I have found that you can only book 3 months in advance, so the bookings will become available in the next week.

Also, as it is in school holidays, I reckon I could wangle the Thursday off work as well, perhaps camping a couple of nights in 2 different spots could work.

I expect that Central Station will get booked up fairly quickly. The other fenced camp sites aren't too bad either, but generally lock you in outside of low tide. There's not much to do ..... other than fishing. And Central Station is a fair way inland, which meant virtually no wind, even when it's blasting on the coast. But even 4 nights at Central Station will keep you busy at Central Station. Virtually all the inland activities are accessible from Central Station.

I'm sure our group would be happy to start on Thursday too.

Wowwwwwwwwww... 7 bookings already. Looks like we can start booking now, i.e. from the 27th of Sept. Looks like anyone wanting to go to Central Station needs to book quickly. Our perference is probably to stay in the one spot as it takes us nearly 3 hours to pack, and 2 to unpack. And the hot showers at Central Station are the best I've seen at a remote camp site.

Ok Dave, you have won me over. I have to have a discussion at work with the staff about the Thursday, so I hopefully I will know by the end of the day.

I have just booked Central Station from 28/9 - 1/10.

I was checking trailer sites, there are none left for the 28th, but still there from the 29th. I imagine they will start dissapearing quickly as they will become available tomorrow for the long weekend.

I thought I'll also send an e-mail to see if the group site is still available. This is very nice area, and probably better suited for our group. I'll let you know as soon as I get a response.
