Re: Capella_Ben's 80 [Recovered]
Got the central locking working better. The passenger door was not locking properly. I'm now very good at removing door trim...

Yippee. Got the locker out of the Lux and is now in the front of the Cruiser.
I went to test it in the same spot I tested the locker when it was in the Lux. However...... The cruiser just drove over it without a problem. Hmmm. Will have to wait for the next outing to test it properly.
I have jacked up a wheel and it does work.
I can highly recommend ARB Capalaba. They did a very professional job with the swap. I got them to do a swivel hub rebuild (I know it's not too hard, but they had it all apart and it didn't cost much) and they replaced a leaky seal. They also put in a front diff breather without being asked. I did the rear before, but needed a part for the front. So I'm pretty happy!
I didn't get out of it unscathed though. The wallet is a little lighter and a headlight bulb blew on the way home. Hmm, maybe a headlight upgrade.......

Lift kit is in. Got 60mm in the front and 85mm in the rear. It's a tight fit in the garage at the moment. The tyres tomorrow will probably make it too tall.
It rides a heap better then with 18 year old saggy springs and the cheapest shocks you can buy.
Rear locker is also in and seems to work a treat as well.

Yeah just got it in the garage with some more modifications. I filled up the ballast tank (sub fuel tank) and I now have a wopping 5mm clearance.

Re: Capella_Ben's 80 [Recovered]
Since the last post I have done a lot of re-wiring, painted the tow bar and replaced the bolts. I also had to replace the heater fan after destroying it when trying to clean it. I also re-painted the cargo tie down points.
I spent three hours yesterday putting together a cargo net (not a cargo barrier) out of the elastic netting I used on the Hilux.
I also had a problem with the heater box leaking air. Found it was a foam seal that has perished and is missing. Squeezed some new stuff in and the air-con is much better.
The damn passenger door central locking is still not right, need to re-think that one.

Here's a pic of the cargo net.

It's very useful.
I also changed the alternator and AC belts. Found a beaut fracture in one of the alternator belts.

Re: Capella_Ben's 80 [Recovered]
I finally figured out how to jack it up enough in the garage. So tonight I adjusted the handbrake properly. Interestingly I found that the drivers side drum was not really working at all with the handbrake on.
For those interested LCOOL has some great instructions for this.

Maybe the handbrake will actually work now...

Re: Capella_Ben's 80 [Recovered]
There is one spot on the 80 that is prone to rust. Its a bracket on the firewall for the mount for the front fender can gather water. I have a little rust around the drivers side already that needs cutting out.
There is a rubber bung in the bottom of this that traps the water and causes the rust. I finally got around to looking at these and took them out. When I took the passenger side one out I almost got drowned. Shocked It was FULL of water! Evil or Very Mad
Luckily the drivers side rust has not gone all the way through to the cab. Will have to get it looked at some time...
