The day started at 9am at Wamuran. The sun was out (which was a bonus, since the rain looked like it had set in the afternoon before) We headed up Campbell Pocket Road, turned left into Mt Mee Road, then right into Robinson Road, intending to travel throught the northern end of the forest before stopping for lunch. The track we had taken previously has been blocked off by the epa, which was disappointing as it was a very interesting way though. We continued on to explore a new area. Steve and Kim left the rest of the group waiting on a main track, while we ventured down a side track to check accessible before taking all vehicles through. It proved to be quite steep and slippery in section, so we radioed back to the rest to continue on and we meet them back at the entrance to the forest.
After a pleasant picnic lunch at the Gantry Day Use Area, we headed down Peggs Road (on the southern section of the Park) Again, a good track we have previously used was blocked off, so we bypassed this area and drove further down Peggs Road where we turned right off along a very picturesque track which took as along a pretty creek, and eventually came to Byron Creek Road. Turning right we travelled along to another track off to our left which is also now blocked off, so we continued on and turned left, heading south up a steep hill. At the top we turned around and retraced our steps to Byron Creek Road, before turning left into Diana's Bath Road, and right into A Break. This popular track is in pretty good condition at present, unlike previous trips when it has been severely rutted out. At the top we turned right into a track, which was quite steep and wet in sections, and eventually ended up back on Peggs Road. At this stage we decided to head back at Wamuran for happy hour.
Most of the tracks were relatively dry. One or two sections were a bit wet in places, but all of the vehicles traversed the tracks without any trouble at all. The number of tracks which are now blocked off is disappointing, particularly since these have been our favourites in the past.
Thanks to all who attended. It was the "best trip ever" of course!
