Lockyer National Park 23rd June 2024

Post by GridPack »

It was a second go at scheduling this trip through Lockyer National Park, and this time the weather was perfect.
Terry and Allison, Maddy and Peter, and Shane and Sophie met up with Don and Tracey at a café in Forest Hill for an early 9am start. It was nice to get out into the country for a day.
We headed to the eastern entrance of Lockyer National Park then drove through the park, branching off to the rougher southern entrance before backtracking back to the western side of the park.

The wattle was certainly starting to look spectacular.

We then followed 17mile road up to the Gus Beutel near Ravensbourne for a picnic lunch. We took the time to walk the short walking track through the rainforest.

After lunch we tool a track down from the lookout which would have been very slippery with even a small amount of rain. The lantana had been cut back but was still pretty tight in spots.

The plan was to visit Spring Bluff Railway Station but of the 2 roads we tried, one was closed due to roadworks and the other dry weather road which we have used on previous trips, had deteriorated further and looked too dangerous for our convoy. So, we backtracked and headed for home via Ravensbourne. Spring Bluff Railway Station can await another trip.
A nice day out!
