The morning was sunny, and nowhere as humid as the preceding day when South East Queensland had copped a severe beating from storms. Jimna which is just north or where we meet the dirt roads had almost an inch or rain the afternoon before. Although the weather was looking particularly nice we chatted about the last time we visited the area after a storm and I was starting to get nervous that I hadn't packed in a decent chainsaw instead of my bow saw.
As we headed north from Kilcoy, there was obvious storm damage with lots of trees/branches on the side of the road in a short section just outside Kilcoy. However as it turned out, this was the last signs we saw that storms had been through the previous day. The tracks on the whole trip were quite litter free and in extremely good condition. We didn't even bother to air down.
We headed along the Kilcoy Murgon Road and turned onto the "dry weather" Sunday Creek Road. After a delightful run along through sections of rainforest we turned towards Booloumba Falls and made our first stop at the new bridge over Booloumba creek upstream of the falls. The big surprise was that in spite of the heavy rain the creek seemed barely above a trickle. However the rainforest around the bridge was still spectacular.

Our next stop was at Booloumba Falls car park. We had to park outside on the road as the car park was full - easily the busiest I have ever seen it. Fortunately the cooler conditions made the walk down to the falls relatively comfortable. Ben and Indy explored the rocks above the swimming hole finding among other interesting items some freshwater shrimp.

Cos of course was wandering around looking for the best photo opportunities.

I think we can probably also expect to see some photos posted of a bower bird nest.
While I was originally aiming to be at Charlie Morelands campgrounds for lunch, we decided to stop at the day use area at the Booloumba Falls camping area as time was getting on and bellies were rumbling.

We didn't spot any toilets, so after lunch we pushed on to Charlie Morelands. We contemplated exploring a bit further on the way home along a road that Tim, Cos and I had previously travelled but had been turned back by fallen trees. However given the time and uncertainty as to where we would come out we decided it was best left for a morning of another day to explore those areas. We left Ben Mariana and Indy to further explore the swimming hole at Charlie Morelands while the rest of us headed for home via the blacktop. A great day out with excellent company and perfect weather.
