Inskip Point 7,8, & 9th of June
Posted: May 20th, 2014, 11:27 pm
Hi all,
Unless someone has another preference, I'll coordinate a camping trip to Inskip Point. It is just south of Fraser Island, and almost 3 hours drive from Brisbane. It is adjacent to the ocean, so will not get too cool at night. The temperature is generally 2 degrees warmer than Brisbane.
There are 5 large campgrounds there, ranging from near the beach on sand, to a somewhat grassy surface with toilets nearby. Dogs are permitted, and we can bring our own firewood for a campfire. And Rainbow beach township is only 15 mins down the road.
Depending on people's preferences, the following is on offer :
A drive along the beach to :
- Play with the coloured sands on Rainbow beach
- A walk up to the lighthouse at Double Island point - spectacular views (and watch the turtles, dolphins, and Manta Rays swim by).
- A walk up Red Canyon (coloured sands)
- A splash in the shallow but warmer waters north of Double Island point.
- A drive along the beach to :
And for keeping off the beach :
- Early morning dolphin feeding at Tin Can Bay
- A drive along Freshwater or Poverty Point roads (rain forest with a firm sandy base .... relatively easy drive).
- A walk to the Carlo Sandblow (short walk to the sandblow, but you'll then want to walk towards the ocean - spectacular view)
- Lunch/dinner at a fish shop at rainbow beach. Some VERY nice fresh local fish
- I can bring some kayaks if people are interested to have a paddle in calm waters (right next to the campground)
- A 30m walk to the beach for watch the sun set/rise (yes - both are available ... it's Inskip Point), fishing, or building a 4 metre sand castle, or just walk to the northern point to look at the Mantra Ray vehicle ferry and Fraser Island.
Where: Inskip Point
Cost: National Parks standard camp fees, plus $11 4WD fee per day for beach access. We may only use 1 or 2 days max.
When: Saturday 7th of June to Monday 9th of June
Meeting Place: BP on the Northbound Bruce Highway at Morayfield at 8:40am for a 9:00am departure (last one there has to write up the trip report)
UHF: Channel 13
Trip Standard: Expected to be Green circle (easy)
Trip Leader: Dave (Prado Dave) - Ph 0407 735 409
Let me know if you are interested as soon as possible, and I'll happily customise the activities to meet people's preferences.
