Three people have been taken to hospital after a Brisbane City Council bus crashed into the front of a popular restaurant in West End.

The bus appears to have mounted the curb on Melbourne Street and crashed into the front of Punjabi Palace Indian restaurant on Saturday afternoon.

The front of the restaurant was extensively damaged, with the bus wedged underneath its main awning.

At least two other cars were also damaged in the crash.

The ambulance service says nine people were checked by paramedics and three taken to hospital as a precaution.

The restaurant's manager was inside the restaurant and says he heard an almighty bang before being sprayed with glass.

He said he helped drag the driver out of the bus.

Fire officer Andrew Blumsan says thankfully there were no passengers on the bus and no customers in the restaurant.

"Unsure as to how the incident occurred. There was a bus and two other vehicles involved. There was a total of nine patients originally but only three were transported to hospital," he said.

"They are all minor injuries, bruising and a few abrasions as well."

It is the second time a vehicle has crashed into the restaurant.
