New rubbers in the front sway bars. It seems a bit tighter around corners now.

I also have changed the steering shaft seal (through the firewall). Was a little old...

I finally got around to installing the reversing camera.

After a lot of studying of the electrical schematics I found the reversing wire near the dash (instead of at the reverse light itself). I then dismantled the dash and pulled out the stereo. After wiring that up and plugging in the camera video wire (and a little more tidying up) I squashed it all back in. Most of the time for this part of the job is in getting all the wires at the back of the stereo to fit.

I then ran that cable to the rear and mounted the camera itself. It's important to have the camera in the middle so the lines it draws on the screen line up correctly. I got power for the camera from the trailer plug loom. I don't have a reverse camera on the trailer so this wire was not currently used and already had a connector on it. There was a bit of mucking around getting the cable through the tailgate onto the body, but I think I ended up with a pretty neat solution.

After a bit of tidying up if some cables I now have:

Here is the camera:

and this is what the display looks like:

Now I can hook the camper trailer up myself (thank god).

I have just had the Cruiser tuned. I used a guy that came highly recommended by other 80 owners. When he arrived, he was carrying an angle grander which was a bit concerning.

So he ended up modifying the boost compensator for better tunability. We then drove around and he either tweaked the compensator or the fuel to get the turbo boosting up easier and the smoke down. We finished off with checking the air fuel ratio (which was spot on first time). So no more smoke and a heap more power down low.

Very happy with the results!

Who was it that did the tune and how did he tune it, because from memory you dont have a boost or pyro guage installed. Did he run it up on the dyno or just go by feel.

Nice to hear you had some good results. We will be able to get much clearer video now when behind your car. ;)

I hope you also get some improved fuel economy.

For some reason I got a little water in some lights. I can't imagine how...

All cleaned out now.

The alternator didn't like it much either...

The pillar pod, boost and pyro gauge arrived today. Just in time for me to install it before the Levuka trip.

I had a bit of trouble with the pyro sensor because I didn't understand that it is a tapered pipe thread.

Image

I disconnected the overboost switch (which I think is a bit dodgy) and used that for the boost gauge.

I still need to paint the pillar pod and wire up the lights in the gauges.
