The Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trail event was postponed a week due to flooding, and a good decision as the new date arrived with superb weather. Cos (Trip Leader) and Kathy, Terry and Allison, Paul and Keri, Steph, and Don and Tracey started the day at Towri Sheep Cheeses at Allenview. Plenty of great cheeses, Jams etc on sale and a coffee van doing good trade at the entrance.
We then headed south down near Rathdowny to Running Creek Beef farm. A very pretty spot (I forgot to take a picture, but someone may be able to post one up) nestled among the hills and creeks, but by this stage of the day the line up to get in the door was very long so we had a look around and headed to the Oaky Creek Farm and Harvest café. Another great spot with terrific views across the countryside. We didn’t have any problem picking up assorted delicacies here. The café was doing a roaring trade with coffee and ice creams.
We then headed to the Scenic Rim Brewery for lunch. Our table was on the footpath, a great spot to watch the world go by. The food was terrific and the beers extremely good. Beside the brewery a small market had been set up with all sorts of tasty treats and odds and sods.
Even though we had been good lads and didn’t over sample the brews, it still caused a guilty heart flutter as we passed unchallenged through a Random breath test station down the road. No - I didn’t lean out the window to take a photo!
The last stop of the day was at the Scenic Rim Farm shop near Kalbar. We were about the last to leave.
The weather was perfect all day and we even had a rainbow on the way home.
A great day out, no 4WDing but a great chance to get together for a bit of socialising, relaxing, shopping and visiting places around the Scenic Rim. We’ll definitely be doing this trip again as we only had time to visit a small selection of the places on the trail.
Thanks to Cos and Kathy for organising the day.
