Channon Markets 12th August 2018

Post by CBM_64 »

We all met up at McDonald's in Beaudesert nice and early so we could get on the road early as we were anticipating a long day of driving ahead of us. The group consisted of myself & Kathy, Don & Tracy and we welcomed some newcomers to the Breakaway club, Tim, Rosie & their daughter Emmi.

We headed south along the Mount Lindesay Highway until we reached Rathdowney where we turned off onto the aptly named Running Creek Rd. Despite all the dry weather we've had the creek still had water in it. The road was bitumen the whole way but there was beautiful scenery to take in along the way.

We eventually came to Lions Rd and Don suggested we stop and have a look at the Border Loop Lookout which was certainly worth a look. It was a busy little lookout with lots of 4WD's parked up. They looked like a big group so we made sure we got out ahead of them.

We continued on and arrived at the Channon Craft Market about 11:30am. As expected it was busy at the markets and we had to queue up for 5 to 10 minutes to get into the carpark for which we had to pay $2. We decided we would all meet up again at 1pm and went our separate ways to check out all the different stalls. The hour and a half seemed to go quite quickly and Kathy & I only had time to make it around once. We stopped for lunch along the way, choosing from the myriad of food stalls. We also found Gary tending his mushroom stall and had a brief catch up with him.

On the way back home Don took the lead and we followed him through more beautiful scenery into Mebbin National Park where he found us some dirt roads to get the cars dusty. We didn't need to get out of 2WD in the NP, we just had to slow down occasionally to navigate the really bumpy bits.

Once through Mebbin NP we stopped at an unusual cafe in Tyalgum called Flutterbies Cottage Cafe. It is a collection of different business's all under the same roof. We had some coffees and pastries to prepare us for the last leg of the trip home. Kathy & I plus Don & Tracy decided to take the more scenic route up past Natural Bridge then over to Nerang to join the Highway. Time was getting on so we decided not to stop at Natural Bridge but leave it for another time. Tim, Rosie & Emmi opted to head straight over to the Highway from Tyalgum to try and get home quicker. As it turned out it wasn't any quicker as they spotted Don exiting the M1 as they drove home.

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make it a good day out.

Cheers,

Cos.
