Hi members,
I need new tyres for my Navarra so I thought before I get them I'd take a trip to Sundown NP as I've heard the tracks there are good at destroying tyres. I haven't worked out the finer details yet such as meeting point etc. but I thought I'd see if anyone is keen enough to brave the cold weather and camp at Sundown in July. I'm planning for the first weekend in July but I could move it if anyone wanted to go but wasn't free that weekend.
Let me know if you're interested.

Hi Cos,
Yes - it will definitely be cold weather camping. Just a good excuse for large fire. I might be able to come along, and will confirm closer to the date.
Cheers
Dave

I'm thinking of moving this trip to the following weekend, the 8th & 9th July. If anyone can get the Friday or Monday off we can make it a 3 day trip as its a long drive out there just for the weekend. Let me know if you can make it.
Cheers,
Cos.

I should be ok for at least the weekend 8th and 9th - I don't mind the drive.
Not sure yet about the extra day - will see closer to time.
Cheers,
Don

Hi all,
Here are the details for the Sundown NP trip;
Where; Sundown National Park, camping at Burrows Water Hole campground
When; 7th to 9th July
Cost; $6.15 per person per night or $24.60 per family per night. You need to book the campsite prior to arrival. Here is a link; https://qpws.usedirect.com/QPWS/Facilit ... hView.aspx
Meeting Place; We will depart from Caltex Star Mart, 25784 New England Highway, Stanthorpe, QLD, 4378 at 10am
UHF; Channel 13
Trip Standard; Easy to Difficult
Trip Leader; Cos
Will anyone have firewood to bring along? The website says bring your own firewood. Milled timber is best as it reduces the risk of introducing diseases. We should get to the campground around lunch time and be able to spend the afternoon exploring after setting up camp.
Hope to see you all there.

I have firewood to bring along. I recently helped cut up a few fallen trees from people's back yards, and I kept some of the dry-ish wood. And then I still have wood that I carried through the central Australia. I just need to confirm if I can take Friday off work. I should know by the week before the 7th.
Found this gps track on the hema site - https://cloud.hemaexplorer.com/datasumm ... aed77e36//
The track splits just after the entry to the park, but we have always gone just the one way in the past. This might be an opportunity for us to try the other track.

Oh and Dave, your avatar is from a trip to Sundown if I remember correctly.

Hi guys
At the moment its not looking good for getting two - three days off. Driver away so it's all hands on deck. Things could change so will keep you posted.
The weather out this way is a little cool over night but the days are just perfect.

On the Sundown website it says there is no recreational 4 wheel driving. Would anyone know if this has always been the case and people just ignore it or are we going to find all the tracks closed?
Is there four-wheel driving in the park?
No, not as a recreational activity. A 4WD vehicle is needed to reach some camping areas. Four-wheel driving is a high impact activity that causes erosion and is therefore restricted to the one access track.
Can we ride motor or push bikes on the firetrails?
Definitely not, only on the designated access roads. Motorbikes must be registered and ridden by licensed riders.
