We have been on the road for 2 weeks now and can't believe now quickly the time has gone. In Derby WA at present, leaving for the Gibb River Rd tomorrow.
The Donohue Hway reopened the day before we planned to travel (was closed due to flooding). The road wasn't too bad, just a few little boggy patches but we managed to get a flat (big stick straight through the tyre wall). That night we camped under the stars, dozing off to sleep with the dingoes howling. Next day we crossed into NT and stayed at a great little campground about 100klm from Alice Springs. Next day we travelled to Alice and spent two nights there, sightseeing etc.
Then on to the Tanami Track, which proved to be relatively good. Some sections were corrugated but we easily sat on 80klm per hour. The second day we reached Wolfe Creek Crater (amazing) were we meet up with Nedly and Chris. We spent a great evening catching up.
Onto to Halls Creek the next day for a fuel stop, some grub and a quick look around town before heading to Fitzroy Crossing where we spent the night in a campground with hot showers! Next day we arrived at Broome, staying 2 nights. It was a full on 2 days checking out as much as possible. It is a busy town at this time of year.
Then onto Cape Levegue for 2 nights and we all wanted to stay longer (unfortunately the campground was fully booked). It is so beautiful there, red cliffs, white sand and azure sea, makes for a wonderful scene. We saw whales from our cliff top campsite, magical.
We arrived in Derby yesterday for 2 nights. Nice little town with a great campground. Some of us took a flight over the Dampier Peninsular and Horizontal Waterfalls today which was terrific. The coastline is spectacular.
We have spoken to many fellow travellers as you can imagine. It appears that the road to Mitchell Plateau and Kalumburu is pretty bad so we may not be able to go to the Mitchell Falls which will be disappointing, but of course we don't want to damage our vehicles. There will be plenty of other beautiful places to visit up here instead.
Well we will more than likely be out of internet range for about 2 weeks so we will be in contact after then.
Hoping that everyone is well and we are thinking of you all.

What are the temperatures you are experiencing during the day and at night (early morning)?

Re: Kimberley Trip
Hi all. Back in civilisation again at Kunanurra. We are having an amazing trip. Dave the temps have been from -2 to 30 inland, but around 15 to 33 closer to the coast. Warm days but not unbearable. Very dry heat.
The scenery has been awesome. No fish yet (the water is too cool apparently). But we don't intend giving up yet. Only 2 weeks left but we are all looking forward to it. Have caught up with Nedly and Chris a few times along the way. They are both very well. Chris's birthday was the 7th, Steve's the 8th so a few celebratory drinks were sunk. Happy anniversary to Greg and Renae for the 7th.
Must away as it is almost happy hour, a very regular occurrence on this trip!

Hi Kim,
Glad to hear you're having a good trip. But wow - that some temperature range inland.
Hope the veliches continue to behave for the remaining trip.
Dave.

Re: Kimberley Trip
How's the trip going Kim? If you are still on your original itinerary you should be in Mt Isa??
